Definition DEFINITION  (Go to top)

This condition is caused by a underproduction of the thyroid stimulation hormone produced by the anterior pituitary. Symptoms can include fatigue, inability to tolerate cold, weight gain or obesity, dry or thinning hair, dry skin, low blood pressure, sluggishness, muscle weakness or cramps, migraine headaches, recurrent infections or constipation. There is a strong liver connection as thyroid hormones are conjugated in the liver. Check for a viral component which is often the Coxsackie virus and/or for the presence of heavy metals. Check floride levels in drinking water.

Commentary COMMENTARY  (Go to top)

Kelp has been found to be useful in that it contains iodine, which is the main ingredient of thyroid hormone. The amino acid L-Tyrosine attaches to iodine, forming the active thyroid hormone. Diet should be rich in foods that support and balance the thyroid: egg yolks, parsley, apricots, dates and prunes, chicken and fish. Cabbage and broccoli family vegetables should be minimized. Avoid use of chlorine as it blocks iodine receptors and can lead to thyroid dysfunction. Lithium is contraindicated in cases involving goiter. Look to Fields of Flowers for imprinting in matters concerning grief. Additional therapeutic protocols: Hashimoto's Disease, Heavy Metals, Viral Infections
